We had to rush this session due to crazy family schedules, but you really can't tell! And honestly, I always have so much fun when I shoot this family.

Can you imagine what it's like to have that many gorgeous kids?! Me neither. They're as funny as they are good looking. :)

I think the big conundrum of every photographer is finding someone to take our pictures. I don't want to pay someone to do what I can do myself, and no one's style is quite like mine. Who's style do I want? Mine!

So, this fall, my family and I took a mini vacation up in the mountains. We brought our camera, extra outfits, a tripod and a remote.

As you can imagine, taking your own family pictures poses some challenges. For instance, now I see the "flaws" in our placing, because I wasn't able to look at it through the view finder and fix it right away. But you know what? I think we ended up with some rockin' pictures nonetheless.

Love this guy.

Seth didn't want to stand because he would be taller than his sister. And this is Abigail with her "hand on her hip."

Totally un-posed.

This is his wink. :)

Let me just start by saying the weather is my arch nemesis. It watches me as much as I watch it. After carefully planning these family pictures (complete with trading work shifts so Dad could be present in said pictures), the weather decided this ONE day would be the one where it huffed and puffed and blew the leaves down.

It was cold. Really cold. And super windy. This makes it hard for little ones to be happy, but we worked quickly and bribed much. The result?

Feast your eyes:

Beauties, eh? I love them. It's always so much fun to work with families and to watch the dynamics. These kids were wonderful. The parents too. ;)

Oh, and in case you were wondering, the beautiful Chinese girl is an exchange student from Shanghai.

Someone asked me not too long ago how I got started in photography. It all started with this family. Almost four years ago, I called up my friend, who'd just had a baby, and said, "Hey, can I drive out and take E's baby pictures?"

I don't know what possessed me to do it, but I wanted to try. My friend agreed, so I drove the hour to her house, set up my black sheet, and snapped away.

Thank goodness they're such good friends of mine and let me have another chance a few years later after Little B came along. :) (By the way, those newborn pics can be found on this blog if you care to dig far enough back into the archives. I have learned much since then in the art of Newborn Photography. Actually, in photography, period. :) )

One of the joys of raising young children is all their facial expressions. They don't hide much. As you can see:

But you know what? That's life. This is how it is when you have small people finding their way in a big world. And why would we want to forget that? So I love pictures where the kids aren't smiling big like we are begging them to. :)

And hands down one of my all-time favorite pictures I've ever taken is this one:

Something about the lighting and the coloring and the sweet innocent girl. It just calls to me.

Thanks for stopping by!

A few weeks ago, we embarked on an amazing 2 week adventure. One of our pit stops was in Saratoga Springs, Utah, where we literally ate and ran. Ok, we stayed the night, but we weren't there for much longer than that.

In exchange for housing us for the night, I agreed to take my brother and sister-in-law's pictures. They really didn't even have to twist my arm. I think the conversation went something like this:

SIL: So, how long are you going to be here?
Me: We'll come in the afternoon and leave in the morning.
SIL: Oh. Ok, well, my family pictures are a little outdated...
Me: Want me to take them?
SIL: Well -
Me: I'd be happy to! I'm bringing my camera. Don't tell me no. I'm taking your family pictures!

See? She had no choice but to acquiesce and let me do it. And then she had to wait THREE WEEKS! to get the pictures back. In my defense, two of those weeks were spent on vacation. :)

Without further ado, here they are.
